About Us

East Side Riders Cycling Club (ESR)

The East Side Riders Cycling Club (ESR) is the largest Cycling Club in Essex County. The group is based in the Town of Tecumseh (just east of Windsor Ontario).

Informally created by a handful of road riding enthusiasts in 2009 and formalized into an Ontario Cycling Association affiliated club on June 4, 2012. The group currently has over 100 members who ride and race mainly in Essex County.

Why Choose Us

ESR provides club rides and support to those who want to cycle and increase their fitness or performance in a friendly environment that stresses safety and camaraderie.

The club is focused on developing road riders in the areas of fitness and performance but also provides rides for those who want to gain group riding experience or just enjoy to ride. The rides are designed to cater to the novice, intermediate and advanced rider.

ESR Ride Types & Routes

Group D Ride

Decaf Ride / Morning Crew as a Ride (avg 28) - Not interested in speed. Touring, social riding, learn to group ride.

Group C Ride

Coffee Ride (avg 30) – Experienced in group riding. Looking to improving fitness, social in nature, interested in improving to group B.

This ride is an excellent introduction to group cycling. Cruising speed is a comfortable, 27-30 km/h and distance is generally 50-60kms on roads with low to moderate traffic. The intent of this ride lies in the social aspect of cycling while enjoying a workout and gaining group riding experience. This is a "no drop" ride. Riders falling off the pace will be given the opportunity to rejoin the peleton or be escorted to a destination of their choice. No rider will be left alone on the ride. This ride will have several designated ride captains who will inform the riders on the parameters of the ride at the start and offer assistance as needed. Coffee and Espresso riders may join this group as a recovery ride, BUT MUST RESPECT THE PARAMETERS OF THE RIDE.

Please, if you feel the need for speed, try one of the coffee or espresso rides.

Group B Ride

Coffee Plus Ride (avg 32) - Veteran group rider, interested in speed, stepping stone to ride in group A, new to racing.

This ride is a great fit for the intermediate rider who has spent considerable time on the bike and is looking for a bit more of a challenge in distance and speed. This ride typically cruises along at 31-34 km/h. Distances can range between 65 -80 km on roads with low to moderate traffic. This ride requires that you have experience riding in groups, be able to change a tire and address minor mechanical issues and understand group riding etiquette.

Espresso riders may join this group as a recovery ride, BUT MUST RESPECT THE PARAMETERS OF THE RIDE. Sprints occur at designated points along the ride. The intent is for this to be a "no drop" ride. Riders falling off the pace will be given the opportunity to rejoin the peleton. This ride will have a designated ride captain who will inform the riders on the parameters of the ride at the start.

The number of riders on rides in Groups D and C will be limited to twelve (more or less). We have protocols in place where large groups will be split into separate groups making a safer and more enjoyable ride.
